About Me

I photograph wildlife with patience, restraint, and deep respect.
I move slowly, stay present, and never interfere with what’s unfolding.
If an animal allows me into its world, even briefly, I treat it as a privilege and a gift.
I aim to blend into the scenery and share a moment that feels genuine and unforced.

I’m Debbie Campbell, a wildlife and nature photographer based in Fort Collins, Colorado. I wander local trails and natural places, on the lookout for those quiet moments when animals let us briefly into their world. Through Hidden Wilds, I share the images and stories that come from those encounters.

While I love to travel, I’m most drawn to everyday wildlife – backyard birds, foxes, deer, anything living their lives around us. My aim is to present them with a fine-art aesthetic: soft light, thoughtful composition, and a story you can feel as well as see.

My favorite moments are when I’m quietly in tune with my surroundings and an animal comes close without my disturbing its behavior. That’s when magic happens.

My work has been recognized by NANPA, the Rocky Mountain Raptor Program, the Larimer County Fair (Reserve Grand Champion), and several magazines. I’m also proud to support conservation through groups including Nature First, the Center for Biological Diversity and Earthjustice.

When I’m not out with my camera, you’ll find me paddle boarding, hanging out with my two English springer spaniels, or exploring new places with my husband. I’ve lived in Colorado since 1997 but I’m originally from the East Coast – and still feel most at home where there are lots of trees.

Why the Name ‘Hidden Wilds?’

I chose the name Hidden Wilds because so much wildlife lives quietly among us, unseen unless we take the extra time to look. My photography is an invitation to slow down and notice what’s hidden in plain sight.
